Computer Science Teacher, Bucharest
c. £2200 + flight allowance, relocation allowance, medical insurance, schooling for 2 children
m2r Education are working with The International British School of Bucharest who are currently seeking to appoint a qualified, experienced Computer Science Teacher. SD Aug 22. This is a 2yr contract.
As an AoBSO, COBIS, and CIS member school, IBSB undergoes a 3 yearly BSO (British School Overseas) inspection- rated Good-Excellent in the last inspection, March 2018.
IBSB is also a High Peformance Learning School, the first in both Eastern Europe and Romania, with student attainment levels well above the national average of England. There are approximately 250 students in the Secondary School, with small class sizes made up of 65% Romanian, 35% international for 30 different countries.
Bucharest is clean and safe with a good public metro and tram system costing around 20 euros for a monthly pass. You can walk around at night on your own safely and there is lots to do on the weekends. You have malls located throughout the city with all the western brand shops and restaurants you would expect, but at prices generally below that of western Europe, so your money goes much further. Teachers are paid 3-4 times the average salary, so again it is relatively easy to save and eating out is cheap, costing around 10-15 euros for an entrée, main, dessert, and drink. It is also a place where you can realistically buy your own apartment within one year of arriving, saving on rent, as many staff have done.
The staff environment is welcoming and supportive, with groups of staff regularly attending Wednesday Quiz Night and the traditional end of week Friday staff social. Staff also regularly head away on the weekends together and during school holidays exploring one of the many beautiful old Germanic-styled towns scattered across the Carpathian mountains, skiing in the winter, visiting the Black Sea Coast in the summer, and taking the opportunity to use the low cost airlines to visit Greece, Italy, Turkey, and many other countries a short flight way.
Staff turnover is very low at IBSB, with most staff having settled long-term, owing to the comfortable climate and lifestyle offered in Romania, and the fact that you can save a large portion of your monthly salary, enabling staff to both travel and save for the future.
